Insert an urgent visit responsibly

6 min read

Urgent demand must find a place without breaking protected commitments. Use priorities, targeted buffer and a complete impact check.

Map uncertainty by element

Traffic, parking, complex care, lab handoff and uncertain finish times each have a different risk profile. Use historical spread and team knowledge to locate delay. A flat ten percent uplift treats stable and volatile parts alike and therefore wastes capacity.

Put room where it enables recovery

Buffer after the final visit does not protect a midday deadline. Put recovery room before a hard appointment, after a cluster with variable duration or where tasks can responsibly swap. Keep handoff and break time visible so it is not filled as if it were empty capacity.

Evaluate use and shortage

Measure how often buffer is used, how much remains and which delay still propagates. Consistently unused room can shrink; persistent shortage points to a wrong duration, route or rule. Do not publish buffer use as an individual performance measure because that pressures people to hide necessary margin.
